Walk with Jesus with Confident Humility — Moses 1, Abraham 3

Three Thoughts from Me

  • Confident humility. This is the theme of both Moses’ and Abrahams’ experiences in Moses 1 and Abraham 3. Both were confident enough to see God, face to face. They marveled at his creations and had eyes to see clearly the divine, eternal plan. Both were humbled to learn that “man is nothing” and we must “prove” our intention to return to Him again through faith, repentance, and endurance.

  • Too much confidence leads to pride, shown by Satan, “Moses, son of man, worship me” (Moses 1:12). Thoughts, desires and actions are focused on doing it our way, influenced by the way of the world. Blind arrogance occurs because there is no longer a need to learn from others, let alone the Spirit. Too much humility is accompanied by fear and chronic uncertainty, evidenced by hiding our talents, feeling inferior, resisting new things, and repeatedly saying no to opportunities.

  • Walking with Jesus requires living in the sweet spot of confident humility. Confidence that as a child of God and a commandment keeper, I am worthy to walk with my brother, my guide, my strength, my Savior. Humility to let Him show the way, even when it’s hard or confusing. Confident humility is continually humming, “I need thee every hour” while wearing the garment that boldly states, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me"(Phillipians 4:13).

Two Thoughts from Others

  • “The third lesson from the Lord’s spirit of revelation in the miracle of crossing the Red Sea is that along with the illuminating revelation that points us toward a righteous purpose or duty, God will also provide the means and power to achieve that purpose. Trust in that eternal truth. If God has told you something is right, if something is indeed true for you, He will provide the way for you to accomplish it.” –Elder Jeffrey Holland (Cast Not Away Therefore Your Confidence)

  • “I do not boast in my own strength, nor in my own wisdom; but behold, my joy is full, yea, my heart is brim with joy, and I will rejoice in my God. Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever”        –Ammon, Alma 26:12, 13

One Question for You to Ponder

  • How do you know when you’re living in the sweet spot of confident humility?
