We Shall Live Again! — D&C 137-138

Come, Follow Me: Doctrine and Covenants 2025

Three Thoughts from Me

  • I was close to my uncle Noal, maybe because he was a look-alike of my dad, but more because I knew he loved me. He glowed with the Spirit and continually worked to be inspired for his calling of Stake Patriarch. In my last conversation with him before he died, we happily listed the people we wanted to see when we died. Surprisingly, Emma Smith was on both of our lists! We wanted to hear her experience and express gratitude for her role in the restoration.

  • In this memorable kitchen table conversation, there wasn’t a question of “if” there was life after death. We both knew there was, and my uncle was joyfully anticipating the reunion with his wife, Carol Ann, who died earlier that year. I’m very confident Noal is one of the “great and mighty” spirits who is now spreading the gospel to spirits in heaven, and Carol Ann is serving with our “glorious Mother Eve” as a faithful daughter. I know this because of the glorious revelations recorded in D&C 137 and 138.

  • I take for granted my knowledge of the plan of salvation. Like air and water, it’s just there–a part of everyday life. I’m only reminded of this precious gift when I see others suffer deeply without the belief of seeing their loved ones again. My heart aches for their drought of disbelief. But I add their names to my list of people to see when I die, next to Emma Smith’s, so I can rejoice with them in due time as they are reunited with their loved ones.

Two Thoughts from Others

  • “Throughout the ages, countless people have asked the question posed by Job: ‘If a man die, shall he live again?’ (Job 14:14). To shout “Yes!” in answer to such a question is the great privilege of those with a testimony of Jesus Christ and His Resurrection.  –David A. Edwards

  • “When the focus of our lives is on God’s plan of salvation … and Jesus Christ and His gospel, we can feel joy regardless of what is happening—or not happening—in our lives.” –President Nelson

One Question for You

  • How do the revelations in D&C 137 and 138 give you hope?
