Do Whatever It Takes

Doctrine and Covenants

Three Thoughts from Me

  • If you saw this headline, “Do Whatever It Takes”, you might be intrigued. If you saw the source and recognized it as someone who is smart and reliable, you might take time to read the content. If you believed the words came from a living prophet of God who receives revelation to help you live a better life now and, in the hereafter, you might act and do whatever it takes to follow his divine counsel. But did you?

  • In April 2020, Russell M. Nelson spoke these very words: “I renew my plea for you to do whatever it takes to increase your spiritual capacity to receive personal revelation. Doing so will help you know how to move ahead with your life, what to do during times of crisis, and how to discern and avoid the temptations and the deceptions of the adversary.”

  • Story after story, verse by verse, the Doctrine and Covenants has shown us the power of personal revelation. Revelation is the force that enabled early saints to endure horrific trials and will be the means for us to endure well our prophesized days of darkness and upheaval. It’s been 7 years since President Nelson pleaded with us to increase our spiritual capacity to receive revelation. I didn’t see the urgency then, but I do now, don’t you? It is time to do whatever it takes. It’s never too late.

Two Thoughts from Others

  • “But in coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost. My beloved brothers and sisters, I plead with you to increase your spiritual capacity to receive revelation. Let this Easter Sunday be a defining moment in your life. Choose to do the spiritual work required to enjoy the gift of the Holy Ghost and hear the voice of the Spirit more frequently and more clearly.”
    –President Russell M. Nelson (2018)

  • “When I am faced with a very difficult matter, this is how I try to understand what to do. I fast, I pray to find and understand scriptures that will be helpful. That process is cyclical. I start reading a passage of scripture; I ponder what the verse means and pray for inspiration. I then ponder and pray to know if I have captured all the Lord wants me to do. Often more impressions come with increased understanding of doctrine. I have found that pattern to be a good way to learn from the scriptures.”
    –Elder Richard G. Scott

One Question for You

  • Are you ready to do whatever it takes to hear the voice of the Spirit more frequently and more clearly?
