Three+ Thoughts from Me

  • The promise in D&C 93:1 to see His face and “know that I am” is not just a hope for the future. We can see Him this very day. A poignant record of seeing Him was shared by Melvin J. Ballard:

“If I shall live to be a million years old, I shall never forget that smile. He (the Savior) took me into his arms and kissed me, pressed me to his bosom, and blessed me, until the marrow of my bones seemed to melt!...The feeling that I had in the presence of him who hath all things in his hands, to have his love, his affection, and his blessing was such that if I ever can receive that of which I had but a foretaste, I would give all that I am, all that I ever hope to be, to feel what I then felt!”

  • Elder Ballard received a pillar of light, testifying of Jesus. More common, however, are rays of light that are continuously being poured down upon us. When these rays are seen and then gathered, we, too, can see His face.

  • An evening on a lake in Canada that was so quiet we could hear the fluttering of bird wings. The healing of a wounded horse. A sweet missionary testimony. The music of a master trumpet player echoing in the Park City mountains. These are just a few divine rays of His light, remembered and recorded in my journal, that testify He lives and is with me.

  • What I learned about Jesus: The Light of Christ is literally all around us, if we but look. If we but see, we can see His face shining brightly before us.

Two Thoughts from Others

  • “That is the Lord’s typical pattern, brothers and sisters. Rather than sending us a pillar of light, the Lord sends us a ray of light, and then another, and another…. I have not seen a pillar of light, but, like you, I have experienced many divine rays. Over the years, I’ve tried to treasure such experiences. I find that as I do, I recognize and remember even more of them.”  –Elder Dushku

  • “If we have received the gift of the Holy Ghost and are striving to exercise faith, repent, and honor our covenants, then we are worthy to receive these divine rays constantly. In Elder David A. Bednar’s memorable phrase, “we are ‘living in revelation.’”  –Elder Dushku

One Question for You

  • What rays of light have you seen recently that you don’t want to forget?
