Scriptures that Delight— D&C 81-83
Come, Follow Me: Doctrine and Covenants 2025
(July 21–27)
Three+ Thoughts from Me
I commuted from Park City to Salt Lake for 33 years. Through sun, rain, and snow, day and night, I drove Parley’s Canyon, counting on the promise of D&C 82:10, “I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise.” My side of the promise was to keep my car well-maintained, wear my seatbelt, and drive the speed limit with careful attention to road conditions. In turn, I felt protected and was protected.
There couldn’t be a better song that exemplifies D&C 82:3 than “Because I Have Been Given Much,” written by Grace Noll Crowell. While in the hospital with a chronic illness, Grace turned to writing poetry filled with hope and gratitude. “Because I have been given much, I too must give; Because of thy great bounty Lord, Each day I live; I shall divide my gifts from thee With every brother that I see Who has the need of help from me.“
There’s a popular book called “Let Them” by Mel Robbins. But I like the phrase, “Let Him”, even better. “Leave judgment alone with me, for it is mine and I will repay. Peace be with you; my blessings continue with you” (D&C 82:23).
+What I Learned about Jesus: Let Him judge. Let Him keep His promises as I keep mine. Let me give of my great abundance.
Two Thoughts from Others
“The word covenant is of Latin origin, con venire, and literally means a ‘coming together.’ In the context of the priesthood, a ‘covenant’ is a coming together or an agreement between God and man. It presupposes that God and man come together to make a contract, to agree on promises, stipulations, privileges, and responsibilities…A covenant made in this manner is immutable and unchangeable. It anchors the soul; it creates a steadfast and sure foundation for future expectations.” –Dale G. Renlund and Ruth Lybbert Renlund
“Are you willing to let God prevail in your life? Are you willing to let God be the most important influence in your life? Will you allow His words, His commandments, to influence what you do each day? Will you allow His voice to take priority over any other?” –President Russell M. Nelson
