Be Not Troubled — D&C 45
Come, Follow Me: Doctrine and Covenants 2025
(May 5-May 11)
Three Thoughts from Me
I love cleaning the church. It wasn’t always that way, but now when I see my name on the list, I make sure to schedule it in my calendar. My favorite chore is vacuuming the chapel. It’s a Mary/Martha experience when I can both work to serve and be in a holy place. While I pocket lost crayons and replace displaced hymn books, I recapture stirring songs of the choir, messages of hope and courage, hugs from beloved brothers and sisters, and the many moments when the Spirit has whispered, “This is the place, this is My true and living church.”
Of all the names of Jesus, Advocate is my favorite: “Listen to him who is the advocate with the Father, who is pleading your cause before him–…” (D&C 45:3). Maybe it’s because I loved Matlock (the original show with Andy Griffith), I can imagine what a blessing it will be to have someone stand up for me at the judgement day, someone who knows me and who knows my heart because He has walked daily with me.
“Be not troubled, for, when all these things shall come to pass, ye may know that the promises which have been made unto you shall be fulfilled” (D&C 45:35). As we see the signs of Christ’s second coming all around, this verse may be more than advice. It may point the way to what actions we should be taking.
Two Thoughts from Others
“Tonight, before you pray, imagine Jesus Christ close by. He is your advocate with the Father. Ask yourself, ‘What would my Savior say to the Father about me?” And then become silent. Listen for that voice that says good things about you–the voice of the Savior, your finest friend, and your Father in Heaven, who is really there. Remember, Their love and your worth are always great, no matter what!’” -Sister Tamara W. Runia
“for the day when you are battling…love letters from heaven…Don’t be afraid, I will be with you (Isaiah 41:10), Don’t worry, I will not fail you or leave you (Deuteronomy 31:6), Take courage, I will fight this for you (Exodus 14:14), Be settled. I’ve done this before. (Deuteronomy 31:8), Chin up. I’m bigger than this. (Romans 8:31), Be strong little one. I am here. (Joshua 1:9).” -Dave Butler
One Question for You
How do you stay “not troubled”?
