Words Matter — D&C 106-108
Come, Follow Me: Doctrine and Covenants 2025
(September 22–28)
Three Thoughts from Me
The war in heaven was fought with words. There were no guns or bombs, just words. But those words must have been dangerous, destructive, and divisive. Words separated the people, and lives were changed for eternity. That war continues today.
President Russell M. Nelson summarized his wisdom of 101 years of living with these wise words, recently published in Time magazine: “A century of experience has taught me this with certainty, anger never persuades, hostility never heals, and contention never leads to lasting solutions.”
God’s standard for our words is this, “Therefore, strengthen your brethren in all your conversation, in all your prayers, in all your exhortations, and in all your doings” (Revelation given to Lyman Sherman in 1835, D&C 108:7). To help us, He adds, “And behold, and lo, I am with you to bless you and deliver you forever” (D&C 108:8)
Two Thoughts from Others
“As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are to be examples of how to interact with others—especially when we have differences of opinion. One of the easiest ways to identify a true follower of Jesus Christ is how compassionately that person treats other people.” –President Russell M. Nelson
“The Savior’s message is clear: His true disciples build, lift, encourage, persuade, and inspire—no matter how difficult the situation. True disciples of Jesus Christ are peacemakers.” –President Russell M. Nelson
One Question for You
Are you striving to be a peacemaker with all your words?
