Walk With Me: That Was Just for Me
Jeremiah 1-3;7; 16-18; 20
Come Follow Me: Old Testament 2026
(October 19-25)
Three Thoughts from Me
The book of Jeremiah gives evidence “that God is in relentless pursuit of his children”. Besides Jeremiah, there were at least six other prophets preaching in the region at the same time, one being a woman, Huldah. Whether it was to cover the distance or to provide different voices to different folks, we don’t know, but a model was created.
We saw this same model in the October 2026 General Conference. There were 37 messages from a prophet, apostles, seventies and set-apart leaders. Coming from around the world, they shared the same message, Jesus is the Savior, each from their personal voice and experience. Because we’re different learners, we can connect to those that “speak our language” (2 Ne 31:3). I love Elder Cause because I served my mission in Bordeaux, France, the city of his birth. Who doesn’t love Elder Kearon with his accent and charm, but his recent speech at BYU Women’s Conference on peace and rest has endeared him to me forever. And while I know nothing about flying airplanes, I love the talk Elder Uchtdorf gave on forget-me-not flowers.
How wonderful! How divine! God knows us so well (Jeremiah 1:5), he provides multiple prophets, teachers and leaders over our lifetime, knowing there will be a person or a message that will touch our very heart and spirit at just the right time. When that happens, listen for the heavenly whisper, “This was just for you.”.
Two Thoughts from Others
“The true test of a prophet’s words is when we apply them in our personal lives. Those who hear these messages often comment, ‘It was like he was speaking to me.’ God knows our deepest concerns and wants to help. One of the ways He helps His children is by giving inspiration to prophets.” (God Speaks to Us through Prophets, Church Website)
“I plead with you to gain your own witness of prophets of God and then follow them for the rest of your life. It will be the smartest thing you ever do. Because prophets will be the last safe voices on earth.” (Sheri Dew)
One Question for You
When have you received a prophetic message that was just for you?
