Three Thoughts from Me

  • It’s the season for graduation speeches. One of the best is recorded in Deuteronomy. The Israelites had “compassed this mountain long enough” (Deuteronomy 2:3) and were now ready to enter the promised land. Knowing he would not go with them, Moses delivered his final exhortations as the Israelites graduated from their “wilderness education”.

  • Remember that God has always been with you and will continue to be by your side (Deuteronomy 2:7). Love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might (Deuteronomy 6:5). Forgive, “make a release”, let go of debts (Deuteronomy 15:1,2). “Open thine hand wide” unto the poor (Deuteronomy 15:7). Follow the prophet (Deuteronomy 18:15). “And…blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God” (Deuteronomy 28:2).

  • This timeless speech, filled with words of encouragement and wise counsel, was given in 1400 BC. It bears testimony to me of an eternal plan and is evidence of truths contained in the Holy Bible. Have you discovered this truth yet?

Two Thoughts from Others

  • “When your greatest desire is to let God prevail, to be part of Israel, so many decisions become easier. So many issues become nonissues! You know how best to groom yourself. You know what to watch and read, where to spend your time, and with whom to associate. You know what you want to accomplish. You know the kind of person you really want to become.” (President Russell M. Nelson)

  • “At the end of the day, life can be surprisingly simple: who you loved, how you loved, and the moments that made you smile.”  (Unknown)

One Question for You

  • What, if anything, would you add to Moses’ graduation speech today?
