Walk with Him: Scripture Therapy
Genesis 5; Moses 6 — Come, Follow Me: Old Testament 2026
(January 25-31)
Thoughts from Me
Troubling events outside of my control were tough this week. All I wanted to do was stay in bed, cover my eyes and ears, and ask someone to wake me when the bad news was over. With sincere intention, I sought comfort in Moses 6 this week and found three lessons that were helpful.
See the big picture. God described those who had turned against him as having “their eyes that cannot see far off” (Moses 6:27). This could describe the term, myopic, or nearsighted. My newsfeed is not the full picture. It describes terrible situations at a terrible time. But there are many good things happening simultaneously. Temples being opened in Africa! Cancer being conquered. Babies being born. And kindness, lots of kindness, if I look away from the phone and into my neighborhood. Remember the divine plan and seek the eternal.
Look for Him all around me. “And behold, all things have their likeness, and all things are created and made to bear record of me, both things which are temporal, and things which are spiritual…all things bear record of me.” (Moses 6:63). Even though the ground is bare of snow, I’ve never seen such beautiful sunrises and sunsets. For me, the heavens whisper, “I’m still here. I know what you need. Be patient and faithful.”
Do what you can, even though it seems small. I know the feeling Moses expressed when he said, “I am but a lad…” (Moses 6:31). Will my call to a statesman or my prayers for moisture make a difference? If I shut off the water when I’m brushing my teeth, does it count? Can my small donation to the food bank help someone? I don’t have the answers, but like Moses, I’m doing what I can, knowing that God loves effort and trusting that He knows my heart.
2 Quotes from Others
“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”
–Deuteronomy 31:6
“The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles.”
