Three Thoughts from Me
There was a great woman (2 Kings 4:8). She recognized Elisha as a holy man of God, and being a gracious host, she offered him bread. Her service to this prophet extended beyond his first visit as she set aside a chamber (a wall) for him with a bed, a table, a stool, and a candlestick for whenever he passed through the town of Shunem. In return, Elisha blessed her to bare a son.
But the son died. And when Elisha unknowingly told his servant to ask the woman about the well-being of her husband and child, she simply responded, “It is well” (2 Kings 4:26).
What did this great woman know? I think she knew that regardless of what was happening in her life, she could deal with it–because God (and His prophet) was with her. This is the greatest gift of walking the covenant path, knowing that however messy life seems today, it will all work out, it is well.
Two Quotes from Others
“Everything works out in the end. If it hasn't worked out yet, then it's not the end.” (Tracy McMillan)
“Joy doesn’t come from your circumstances; it comes from following Jesus Christ. You might have a bad day, a bad week, or a bad year. But joy is not the absence of sorrow in your life; it’s the presence of Christ in your life.” (For the Strength of Youth Booklet)
One Question for You
Can you believe “it is well” on your hard days?
