Three+ Thoughts from Me

  • In counseling, my most common question is, “How do you feel?” It’s helpful to identify our emotions and express them out loud. Many times, the expression itself brings relief. Other times, it initiates an unraveling of the complex relationship between events, our interpretations of the events and consequential emotions.

  • Sometimes, the answer to the question is, “I don’t know.” There are just too many mixed emotions to pick out just one, or the emotions are so blended there is no discernible description. And there are times, for me, when I just don’t have the energy to discern what I feel or what I need.

  • These are the moments when our Savior’s assurance brings great comfort, “Behold and lo, mine eyes are upon you…”. (D&C 67:2). When I don’t know, He knows. This simple admission, confessed in humble prayer, lifts the burden of expression with mortal words, replaced by the heart message, “See me, know me, help me.”

  • +What did I learn about Him? He sees me, knows my experience, and knows what I need, even when I can’t express it.

Two Thoughts from Others

  • “Know that He understands. He took upon Himself all our sins, mistakes, misery, and very bad days that we might live again with our Father in Heaven for eternity. He has said, ‘Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.’ Faith in Jesus Christ can lift you up and heal your wounded soul. Trust Him and you will hasten your return to ‘the arms of his love.’”   –Elder Ronald A. Rasband

  • “As mission leaders in Australia, during our last visit with each missionary, we talked about 3 Nephi 17, where the people were close to the Savior and could hear Him praying for them. We asked, ‘If you could hear the Savior praying for you, what do you think He would say?’”. To hear their answers was one of the most Spirit-filled experiences of my life. Everyone one of those missionaries would pause, and tears would fill their eyes as we reminded them, ‘Your Savior knows the degree of difficulty you’re experiencing. He’s felt it!’”.   –Sister Tamara W. Runia

1 Question for You
